Celloween

What: Each year we come together as a cello ensemble to prepare and perform spooky tunes near Halloween. There are opportunities for beginner-level students to join us in group 1, as well as for more advanced students who make up group 2. The Celloween structure/scheduling allows students to enjoy an ensemble experience without needing to commit to something for a whole semester, and also offers the chance to meet cellists from different studios and areas of Atlanta.

Who: Celloween is co-led by Jean Gay and Mary Horst, two teachers each with 15+ years of experience in individual and group instruction, who regularly perform in a variety of genres, and who have each brought to life numerous musical projects and programs.

When: Celloween rehearsals will occur on October 6, 20, 25, and 26, with the final performance on October 27. Detailed schedules for each group are available below.

Tuition: Tuition for group 1 students is $230 per student, and $280 per student for group 2.

Where: All rehearsals take place at the Oak House in Avondale Estates.

More: Videos from past Celloween ensembles are linked below! This year’s anticipated program will be shared by early August. Please reach out here with any questions; to participate sign up below!

From Our Cello Parents

“My kids (12 and 15) have been doing Celloween every year for the past few years.  Even though my son is now in high school and has way more commitments, he still makes time to do it because enjoys it so much.  We love it because the music is really fun and cool. Each child gets a part that is challenging enough to level up their skill, but not too hard as to be overwhelming.  The teachers (Mary and Jean) are phenomenal.  They are able to show empathy while keeping the expectations really high.  The community of cellists is so sweet.  The kids are really encouraging to one another.  And the final performance is a lot of fun.  The kids get to dress up and give a free concert.  We look forward to it every year.”

-Ayana Reddick

"Our kids have participated in Celloween for several years, and each time it's a fantastically rich experience. At each level, they have grown and learned how to rehearse and put together music that is expertly arranged and composed by Jean and Mary. They now better understand how fun it can be to play in a group setting, especially in costume, with light shows and a spooky concert atmosphere. Jean and Mary are true professionals and wonderful teachers and musicians who use their creativity to make forever memories for all levels of cellists. Antonia, aged 13 says, "I like playing with other people my age and the music is really fun" Emeric, aged 10 says "I didn't know how many creepy ghost sounds the cello could make!"
